Marietta, NC – FOCUS Broadband recently designated the Town of Marietta as a Smart Rural Community. Marietta received this recognition because of the work FOCUS Broadband has done to install a state-of-the-art fiber optic network in this rural Robeson County town.

Smart Rural Community is a national recognition program founded by The Rural Broadband Association to highlight member projects which make rural communities vibrant places to live and do business through the implementation of innovative broadband solutions. FOCUS Broadband’s project in Marietta was made possible using $2.7 million in funds made available through the NC DIT GREAT Grant Program.

Having access to reliable, high-speed internet will promote commercial growth and have a lasting impact on families there by providing opportunities to connect for education, healthcare, work, and entertainment,” comments Keith Holden, FOCUS Broadband CEO.

FOCUS Broadband is currently working on two other grant funded grant projects in Robeson County. Another NC DIT Great Grant funded project is near completion in the northern portion of the county and will bring faster internet to rural areas around Parkton and Lumber Bridge. The company has also begun construction on a $24.6 million dollar project funded by the US Department of Agriculture’s ReConnect Grant Program which will bring internet access to several thousand unserved addresses in rural areas near Fairmont, Raemon, Rowland, and Maxton.

Over the years, FOCUS Broadband has helped bring fiber optic technology to public schools, local health care facilities, communications centers, as well as many other vital businesses and organizations in rural areas throughout southeastern North Carolina.
